Activities
The Long Island Turners are participants. Though a relatively small group, as far as Turners are concerned, we manage to do lots of interesting things. True to our motto, we strive to develop our capabilities while having fun and enjoying the comradeship of other Turners. We take great pride in participating in all Turner Festivals, both here and in Germany where there are about a million Turners.
The Cultural aspect developed from the Turners who founded Turner Societies before the Civil War. We participate successfully in local and national competition in many areas including; singing, oration, music and many other different forms of arts and crafts.
We participate in many varied events; locally, nationally and internationally. The Events section concentrates on local affairs held at and in conjunction with ATNY, the American Turners of New York.
The Long Island Turners have a long history of attending the Turner's National Festivals which occur every 4 years. Several members have traveled independently to Germany to participate in their National Festival. Since the 1994 "Turnfest" in Hamburg, we have managed to gather in a group and participate in Turnfests in Munich (1998), Leipzig (2002) and Berlin (2005). We also plan to attend the Frankfurt Turnfest in 2009.
